Dr. Manilal Valliyate is the CEO of PETA India. He is a former co-opted member of the Animal Welfare Board of India and a former member of the Kerala State Animal Welfare Board. At PETA India, he has been instrumental in achieving several groundbreaking victories. His expert testimony and reports have helped the organisation win numerous court cases that have prevented the suffering of animals nationwide, including the landmark 2014 Supreme Court judgement that banned jallikattu (later permitted in Tamil Nadu, which PETA India is committed to challenging in court), bullock cart races, and the use of bulls in other “performances”. To protect his health and reduce animal suffering, he lives a vegan lifestyle.
